GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG, 28th February, 1927.
5421/26
With reference to previous correspondence
terminating with your secret despatch dated 12th January, 1927, on the subject of the Report of the British China.
Indemnity Delegation to the Advisory Committee appointed
under the China Indemnity (Application) Act, 1925, I
have the honour to enclose for your information a
translation of a letter from Professor Hu Shih, member
of the Advisory Committee, which appeared in the Tai Kwong Po, Hong Kong, of 9th February, 1927. Professor Hu Shih signed the report; but from the tone of his letter he appears to have been out of sympathy with
much of it; and it is somewhat surprising that this
letter should have been given to the Press.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient, humble servant,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
Governor, &c.
LIEUTENANT COLONEL L.C.M.S. AMERY, M.P.,
&c.,
